I have always enjoyed playing Shadow Lake. Over the years it has matured and become more of a shot makers course. The trees have grown and made the errant tee shot more penalizing. There are holes that let you fire away, but others that require a more tactical approach.
The second hole is one of the more difficult par 4’s around. It is a long, slight dogleg left, uphill hole that will frighten the slicer in you. The short par fours on the front will try to tease you into hitting driver, but if you lay up you can keep away from the trouble. The wall of trees on the left of number eight eats many a tee shot and the uphill second shot is longer that it looks. The front nine finishes with one of the more recognizable and treacherous par 3’s around. It features the lake and added challenge of an audience on the huge deck at the clubhouse.
The par fours on the back nine let you take out the driver for a change. Number #11 requires a long tee shot left of center to avoid being blocked out by trees on the right. The green at number 12 backs up to out of bounds and sits on a perch, so club selection is very important here. The new green on number 15 made this a much more difficult par 3 than before the changes. The final three holes demand accuracy off the tee. The green on #17 has a valley that funnels shots towards the trap on the right. The finishing hole is nearly drivable, but if you cut too much off on the right, jail awaits.
NOTE: Shadow Lake features an excellent bar with a huge deck. The bar and restaurant are open year round.

Good course. Easy to average. Slower green. Overpriced. Walking not allowed for times.
