| Robert Trent Jones Sr. originally designed several greens at Sodus Bay in 1926 while he was a student at Cornell University. In 1966, Geoffrey Cornish added 9 holes and redesigned the existing 9 holes to make the current 18 hole course. |
Sodus Bay is considered one of the best courses in the Rochester area. The course was built on uneven terrain, resulting in undulating fairways. There are water hazards that come into play on four holes, and the wind is a major factor. The signature hole is #5, a 464-yard, par 4, requiring an approach shot over water to a fairly large green surrounded by sand bunkers. Read more about this course in my Blog.
Great course, well worth the ride there. We try & play this well mainttained course twice a year, although '07 was only one outing. The entire staff from the Pro Shop to the Ranger to the bartender are always friendly & accommodating. The course is always well groomed and inviting. You'll love the view from the #1 tee and you will 3 putt #9 green. Definitely one of the top public courses in the greater Rochester area
A really nice course with a variety of challenges. Just make sure you keep your approach to number nine below the hole.
